Helen Keller was an American author, political activist, and lecturer who was born deaf and blind. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Keller's life story is an inspiration to all, and her work has helped to improve the lives of people with disabilities around the world.

Early Life and Education

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was a healthy baby, but at the age of 19 months, she contracted scarlet fever, which left her deaf and blind. Keller's early years were difficult, but she was determined to learn and communicate. In 1887, she met Anne Sullivan, a young teacher from the Perkins School for the Blind in Boston. Sullivan taught Keller how to communicate using sign language and braille. Keller went on to attend Radcliffe College, where she graduated in 1904 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
