Bob Hoover was one of the greatest fighter pilots of all time. He flew in three wars, shot down six enemy aircraft, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 11 oak leaf clusters.

Hoover was born in 1922 in Nashville, Tennessee. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and flew P-40 Warhawks and P-51 Mustangs in World War II. He shot down three enemy aircraft in the Pacific Theater.

After the war, Hoover became a test pilot for North American Aviation. He flew the first flight of the F-86 Sabrejet and the F-100 Super Sabre. He also set several world speed and altitude records.

In 1952, Hoover joined the Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team. He flew with the Thunderbirds for three years, performing daring aerobatic maneuvers at air shows around the world.

In 1955, Hoover returned to combat in the Korean War. He flew F-86 Sabres and shot down three more enemy aircraft. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters for his actions in Korea.

After the Korean War, Hoover continued to fly with the Air Force. He flew F-105 Thunderchiefs and F-4 Phantoms in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters for his actions in Vietnam.

Hoover retired from the Air Force in 1972 with the rank of colonel. He continued to fly as a civilian aerobatic pilot and air show performer. He flew in more than 300 air shows around the world and set several more world records.

Hoover died in 2016 at the age of 94. He is considered one of the greatest fighter pilots of all time. His story is an inspiration to all who dream of flying.
